“Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world.” – John Muir
Project Description
The Gifted Tree’s planting project in the heart of Alsace, the communal forest of Sélestat which has been strongly affected by a fungal disease: the chalarose. The fungus is responsible for the wilting of the leaves, the necrosis of the stems and the drying out of the branches; these consequences lead to the death of the affected tree. In order to anticipate and counteract the consequences of ash dieback, a new strategy is being adopted to reforest this declining mass. This involves, for example, giving priority to species other than ash (pedunculate oak, maple, black alder…) during stand renewal operations, giving priority to reconstituting the “gaps” created by chalarose. Our reforestation project will enable the stand to be restored and the new hardwood species will host a varied biodiversity, bringing the area back to life.
