Eldorado National Forest, California
“Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world.” – John Muir
Project Description
The Gifted Tree welcomes you to the virtual world of discovering tree planting project information.
This particular project plants trees in fire scar areas around Eldorado National Forest.
Eldorado National Forest is located in the central Sierra Nevada mountain range, in eastern California near
Lake Tahoe. With the recent proliferation of forest fires in the area, reforestation of these burn scars is
essential to prevent erosion and to create habitat for the many species of wildlife in the area.
Recovery after a major wildfire is a long-term process. The first steps involve repairing areas
damaged by fire suppression, and mitigating safety hazards such as fire weakened trees,
burning stump holes, damaged utilities, and hazmat concerns. Many times, regeneration of the
forest can occur naturally over time, but the recent fires have burned so hot, no natural
regeneration occurs.
This planting project includes planting a number of native species including several varieties of
pine, cedar and fir trees. We plant a mix of these conifer saplings, which are 1-2 years old, with
a goal of restoring the diversity of the forest and increasing its resilience to stressors such as
drought, fire, disease and climate change. Trees are planted at the optimal time of year to
ensure long-term survivability, usually in the late spring or fall.

Once connected to the map, feel free to zoom in and out to get a feel of the general planting
area as well as its location in California, the United States and the world. The link is best viewed on a
personal computer as opposed to a cell phone. Please understand that this is the general area of the tree planting. Your
tree would be planted among thousands of other gift trees and there is no plaque designating the gift
tree and visiting the tree is unfortunately not possible.
Know that the tree planting project is making a monumental difference for the earth and
opening a new doorway to the world for future generations. If you have any questions, please
